This Remembrance Day, we’re incredibly proud to share the story of our Cavendish Park Care Home Community Poppy Project – now in its third year – a beautiful initiative that has grown into a local tradition of creativity, remembrance, and togetherness.
What began as a small idea within our Knit and Natter group has blossomed into a project that’s touched the hearts of so many in our community. Over the past two years, our residents, volunteers, and local supporters have lovingly crafted more than 2,000 knitted poppies, which were hand-sewn and displayed across our front fence panels as a striking tribute to the fallen.

Year Three: A New Chapter of Remembrance
This year, our knitters decided to take things even further – creating a stunning cascade of poppies flowing from Cavendish Park’s first-floor balcony. The project began in April, with residents, volunteers, and friends working tirelessly to craft the 2,000 poppies needed to cover a 5-metre drop by 2.5-metre-wide netting.
Our local community truly came together to make it possible – from Wallace House and the Evesham Morrison’s Knitting Group to The De Montfort School (TDMS) and many kind individuals who dropped off handmade poppies at our reception.

A special mention goes to Fran Webb from The Vale Talking Newspaper, who delivered over 100 poppies lovingly knitted by the paper’s listeners, and to The Garage Arts Group, who gifted us a stunning handmade paper poppy picture.

Coming Together for Remembrance
On Monday 3rd November, Cavendish Park hosted our much-loved Veterans’ Coffee Morning, an annual event that has become a cherished tradition leading up to Remembrance Day.

More than 40 guests joined us, including veterans, residents, families, and community members. The atmosphere was filled with warmth, gratitude, and camaraderie.
The residents at Cavendish Park loved meeting with local members of the Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes, sharing stories, laughter, and reflection over cups of tea and coffee.

Community Recognition
The response to this year’s project has been truly heartwarming. From features on BBC Radio Hereford & Worcester to coverage in local news outlets, the Cavendish Park Poppy Project has captured the attention and admiration of the wider community.
Our wonderful Activities Lead, Tea, and resident Betty were even interviewed live on air, proudly representing everyone who has contributed to this special project.
Their excitement and pride perfectly summed up what this project is all about – connection, remembrance, and community spirit.
Continuing a Beautiful Tradition
At Cavendish Park, remembrance isn’t just about reflection — it’s about coming together to share stories, create connections, and keep memories alive.

This community-led project reminds us all that small acts of kindness, like knitting a single poppy, can come together to create something truly powerful.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed time, creativity, and love to this year’s Cavendish Park Poppy Project.
