Shining Bright: Cavendish Park Makaton Choir Finalists at Care Sectors Got Talent 2025

In a celebration of passion, perseverance, and pure talent, Cavendish Park Care Home in Evesham has struck a high note—quite literally—by reaching the finals of Care Sectors Got Talent 2025. Their trailblazing Makaton Choir, made up of residents, team members, and even a dedicated work experience student, has been winning hearts and spreading joy with their remarkable performances.
Their journey began over a year ago when Community Engagement Lead, Kim, saw an opportunity for connection through music and communication. What emerged was far more than a weekly activity—it was a vibrant expression of togetherness, powered by the inclusive language of Makaton, which uses signs alongside speech to make communication accessible to all.
“It’s just amazing everybody coming together,” Kim shared, brimming with emotion. “I’m so happy I can barely contain my excitement. We’ve created something really special here.”
Under the guidance of Makaton instructor Julie, the group has rehearsed tirelessly week after week. The result? A heartfelt and joyous performance that brought the house down during the talent show’s audition stages—and wowed judges enough to earn them a coveted finalist spot.
The big news arrived on March 13th, when Majesticare’s Marketing Manager, Lily Patrick, paid a surprise visit to break the news. The reactions were priceless.
Resident and choir member Margaret could hardly believe her ears. “It isn’t often I am speechless… Just amazing. I can’t believe we are finalists. I’d like to say a big thank you to our Makaton instructor, Julie—without her we would never have formed the choir. I am over the moon!”

Julie added, “We’ve been practising so hard and waiting so long to find out if we got through. It’s absolutely fantastic. It’s now time to get practising for the live final in Birmingham!”
April 2nd 2025 marked the day of the Care Sectors Got Talent LIVE Final! Residents and the team were up early, full of excitement and eager for the day ahead. Dressed head to toe in orange and sparkles, proudly championing Majesticare’s brand, the Cavendish Park Makaton Choir set off at 8am in the home’s minibus to The Repertory Theatre in Birmingham.
Their chosen finale song? ABBA’s Thank You for the Music—a fitting tribute to the joy music and Makaton have brought to their lives.
Upon arrival, the group was dazzled with a true celebrity experience, receiving their own dressing room before heading to the stage for sound checks and last-minute rehearsals. With butterflies in their stomachs, they awaited their moment to shine. Slated as Act 5, they had the honour of closing the first half of the show.
They weren’t alone in their journey. Majesticare’s other homes—Milton Ernest Hall Care Home in Bedford and Haddenham Park Care Home & Apartments in Buckinghamshire—were in the audience, waving banners and cheering with pride.

Then, it was time. The stage was set, the lights dimmed, and the Cavendish Park Makaton Choir stepped into the spotlight in front of 100 live audience members and thousands more watching via YouTube livestream.
From 1:04:32 to 1:20:20 of the show’s official broadcast, Cavendish Park’s Makaton Choir delivered a performance bursting with sparkle, soul, and perfect synchronicity. Watch here to witness their moving routine, a shining example of music as a universal language.
After their stunning performance, resident Sandy shared: “It was brilliant, I really enjoyed it. Look at all the supporters—bless you and thank you.”

Margaret added, “It’s been a rather wonderful day.” She waved at the audience with heartfelt gratitude: “Thank you!”
Choir member Sarah became visibly emotional, saying, “I feel a bit emotional about it really—it’s so amazing to be here.”
The judges were equally touched:

Mike: “It was such a special performance. People think of music as singing and instruments—but you’ve shown us our hands are instruments, too. This was not just outstanding—it was important. Thank you for a stunning performance as well as raising awareness.”
Hannah: “You’re all so wonderfully on-brand! But more importantly, you were in sync and full of heart. You’ve done a great job.”
Amy: “It’s not just about talent—it’s about the heart and skill behind it. I used to work in a deaf society and understand the importance of Makaton. That performance was really special—thank you.”
Sanjay: “Well, I just thought that was ABBA-mazing! You made me smile. Cavendish Park and the wider Majesticare group have created something smart and truly inclusive. Thank you!”
With their performance behind them and the nerves eased, the Cavendish Park Makaton Choir relaxed to enjoy the rest of the show.
Although they didn’t take home the winning title, the experience will remain a cherished memory—a powerful reminder of what can be achieved with unity, passion, and a little sparkle. And this isn’t the end: the choir will be invited to perform at care sector events throughout the year.
Cavendish Park Care Home’s General Manager, Mel commented: “”.I’m absolutely thrilled that the group made the finals. What is so special is that it was such a collaborative effort, with local community, team members, residents and volunteers. A truly special day that they will never forget!

Majesticare couldn’t be prouder to champion the unique, vibrant individuals across their homes—each one a star in their own right.
