Catch up on Chatsworth
Friday 17 April 2020

Paul Turvey, Memory Care Lead on our community Chatsworth would like to share all the good things that continue here at Cavendish Park.

Despite all that is going on in the world at the moment, the past few weeks on Chatsworth have been filled with fun, love and laughter as the team ensure that our residents continue doing the things they love to do the most. It has been a welcome distraction from the stories in the news, for our family to continue with their hobbies and Interests.

Our team continue to grow with and learn from our residents.

Recently we have seen residents enjoy baking cakes that would rival any of those on the ‘Great British Bake Off’. I am quite sure one or two would have got the ‘Hollywood Handshake’. They have enjoyed luxury pamper sessions and cocktails, helping with the washing and drying in our working scullery and even a bit of karaoke!

On our Chatsworth community at Cavendish Park, it is important to us that our residents continue being the people they have always been, and we are so proud to be working with the Majesticare ‘Continue Being Me’ initiative.

There are lots of benefits to being part of this exciting project, for example, Continue Being Me starts right at the very beginning of the resident’s journey with us. We gather as much information as possible about the new member of our family, with the help of a detailed pre-assessment and ‘Life History’ book, to help us create the perfect person-centred care plan. This ensures that the care we provide is tailored to the resident’s individual wants, wishes and preferences. Also, to help us spark creative reminiscence, we also ask that families provide us with an envelope of items. (Pictures, post cards, letters etc) These really help spark conversation and heart-warming memories that can be shared between our family of residents and the team. It also helps us to learn more about our new family member.

Here at Cavendish Park, we see the person, not the dementia and ‘Continue Being Me’ offers many benefits to someone living with a dementia diagnosis, making a real difference by ensuring their person hood is upheld and that they remain the people you know and love.
